| His belief in a hands-on approach to finding solutions has earned him respect at both management and employee levels, and has been instrumental in the growth and long-term success of APS. Karl has gained valuable insights and expertise in product handling, distribution, packaging and reclamation systems. His work throughout the Canadian grocery supply chain, intensive focus in these areas and the resources of APS provide the tools for product manufactures and distributors to develop effective product distribution and handling systems. Karl is also Vice President of Waste Alternatives Inc., an environmental consulting firm committed to developing practical, economically viable methods of environmental management. Mr. Brown has worked with a wide range of business and industrial clients, including: Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association (CPRA) Lily Cups Inc. McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada McDonald’s Corporation (USA) Quick Service Restaurant Council Special Olympics Sweetheart Cup Company Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Unsaleables Committee Procter & Gamble Developing the benchmarking compensation model that is has been successfully used by the industry for the past 7 years. Mr. Brown received first hand experience in the emerging recycling boom, working on research projects to develop early office paper recycling systems, composting systems, and blue box programs. Mr. Brown has performed waste audits in office towers, restaurants, and manufacturing facilities. He has developed an inherent understanding of how material must be separated and diverted efficiently, in order to determine how these materials may be transformed into the raw materials for new processes. Brown has focused on environmental legislation at national, provincial and municipal levels in order to recommend programs that ensure compliance for clients. He is an expert in evaluating technology, equipment, processes and systems for waste diversion in many sectors. Mr. Brown is a Graduate of the University of Western Ontario. Prior to joining Waste Alternatives, he was a resource consultant at Recycling Development Corporation. He has been a member of Second Harvest's Operations Committee and was the Co-chair of the Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada’s Superwalk Fundraiser in 1998. Mr. Brown is currently active in primary school and community fundraising initiatives. |
